Educational System for Recommending Study Activities

Cílem této práce je navrhnout a implementovat modul do existujícího doporučovacího systému Open University v Milton Keynes. Nyní nasazený doporučovací systém využívá informací o aktivitě uživatelů ve Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) nasbíraných z předchozích let a podle ní doporučuje studentům relevantní studijní aktivity. Tento modul využívá sémantické podobnosti mezi studijními materiály k doporučení těch, které pomohou uživateli vyřešit úkol nebo které jsou podobné k těm, o něž projevil zájem.K počítání podobnosti dokumentů je využíváno metod Term Frequency - Inverse Document Frequency a vnoření slov.Pro používání modulu a jeho komunikaci modulu s rozhraním OU Analyse je implementováno RESTful API.

Compulsory school attendance across education systems in the Kingdom of Belgium

The Diploma thesis will deal with study of education systems in the three communities in the Kingdom of Belgium - the Flemish, the Walloon and the German speaking community. It will focuse in more closely on compulsory school attendance of these education systems. The theoretical part will be devoted of comparative pedagogy, its meaning and methodology. It will explain the concepts of the education system and its comparison and compulsory education attendance. The Kingdom of Belgium and its specific structure will be briefly introduced in the next part. The practical part of this thesis will deal with three education systems in Belgium through qualitative research, namely studies. Analysis and comparison of these less known education systems, its evaluation of functionality using comparison education results in schools of Belgian communities are the aims of this thesis. It will also show advantages and disadvantages of autonomy of the individual school systems and their comparison. Tertiary technical schools in the Czech education system

This work deals with problems of the higher professional study. The goal of this work is to make a professional judgement about status of higher professional study within the Czech educational systém on the basis of an analysis of selected problems from its implementation. First, reflections on higher professional schools in public sources are evaluated. Open to public materials of the statě officials work - the Parliament, the government, the president and the Constitutional Court were analysed, together with the whole year 2005 issues of the nation-wide newspaper Mladá Fronta Dnes and the professional periodical Učitelské Noviny. Secondly, a comparative analysis of the legislative defínition of higher professional study with secondary and university studies was made, followed by an analysis of secondary education of the applicants for higher professional education. The finál part evaluates an extent of higher professional education being realized within one school subject together with a secondary professional one. Interconnected carrying out of the secondary and higher professional studies within the same subject is measured on the basis of comparing a number of pupils, students, the extent of teaching of particular teachers and utilization of classrooms in the school. Publikace Vzdělávání zaměstnaných osob přináší hlavní závěry národních výstupů mezinárodně srovnatelného šetření Continuing Vocational Training Survey 2015 (CVTS 5), které statisticky zachycuje oblast firemního vzdělávání. Jednotlivé kapitoly publikace se zaměřují zejména na následující oblasti: důraz, který je ve firmách kladen na vzdělávání, jeho praktická organizace, hodnocení a reakce firem na toto hodnocení; účast zaměstnanců v různých formách vzdělávání, témata vzdělávání a soulad s potřebami firmy; finance ve firemním vzdělávání; omezení a překážky, které firmy ve vzdělávání zaměstnanců limitují, případně mu brání; spolupráce firem a škol, její frekvence a důvody ne/spolupráce; problémy s obsazováním volných pracovních míst a nabírání absolventů do firem. Součástí publikace je i kapitola představující metodologii šetření a tabulková příloha s výstupy šetření v podrobných členěních.

Letting Traditional Boundaries Blur: a Case Study in Co-Developing STEM “Excellence” Courses

This illustrative case study describes the evolution of a series of courses (2014-present) aimed at providing advanced students and early career researchers from a Czech science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)campus with the skills they need to adequately participate in global scientific endeavors. The involvement of library staff in the courses described here ranged far beyond embedding in the passive sense of the word, with all aspects of course design, implementation, and revision managed collaboratively and actively by an interdisciplinary, cross-institutional team championed by library personnel. Thus, this study raises the question of whether or not “embedding” is the appropriate term for describing active library leadership in such “catalytic” endeavors. Structurally, the case study will linearly relate how course modules were developed and how the team approached various organizational and structural hurdles which emerged over time. The study will also show how information literacy concepts were woven into the curriculum without being labeled as such - thus identifying a possible necessity for refining the discourse surrounding information literacy concepts so that students and researchers better understand why they are valuable. The study includes original data from course evaluations as well as descriptions of final syllabi (topics covered, readings assigned, types of homework assigned) for two courses, Scientific Writing in English, and Gaining Confidence in Presenting. Because all instruction and materials were delivered in English, the content described will be relevant to anyone working with advanced STEM students and early career researchers who publish in English. Finally, the study relates how such courses provide essential starting points for proactive engagement with patrons and includes examples of dialogues about writing, publishing, and related topics, introducing issues related to blur: the blurring of traditional boundaries between librarianship and scholarship.

Current Issues of Finnish Education: Equity in Education

This thesis deals with the issue of equal educational opportunities in Finland. Both, Czech and foreign sources as well as my own research data were used for the purpose of this study. The main objectives are to find the answers to the questions of how the idea of equal opportunities in education is carried out at different stages of the Finnish educational system, what is the role of comprehensive school, which specific tools are used for addressing the equity issues systematically or what is the opinion of our experts on the possible inspiration from the Finnish educational model in the Czech conditions. Using the comparison of results of the PISA assessment programme I am trying to reveal the positive and negative effects of two different types of primary schools - comprehensive in Finland and selective in the Czech Republic - mainly focusing on the field of distribution of equal educational opportunities.
